Lucie Benoit is a beautiful, intelligent young woman with an unpleasant older brother named Robert, a consuming affinity for literature, and a troublesome mental illness. Plagued by occasional paranoia, anxiety, and an awkward habit of forgetting where and who she is, still she accompanies her brother on a “business trip” to Mexico (the business being, to supply drugs to a prominent Juárez dealer). Robert’s “professional consultations” with this dealer, César Vicente, bring Lucie into close contact with his entire family – all of whom she takes an immediate liking to, and vice-versa. After suffering an injury caused by hostility between Robert and César, Lucie is invited to stay with the Vicentes. She forges a close friendship with César’s sister, Clara, which eventually develops into a fragile romance. But already Clara is in a relationship with a young man named Tomás Ayala, whom all of her family expects her to marry. So she finds herself forced to choose, between what is expected of her, and what her heart desires. But even this problem is eclipsed, when Lucie’s life is endangered by a deadly trap set by two prominent drug lords – and Clara must go against her own brother, in order to save her.
