Nestled in the woods of Northern Michigan, tiny Cherry Tree is the definition of community. Everyone looks out for one another, especially during the holidays, and resident repairman Frank Garza knows that all too well. He’ll fix your oven on Thanksgiving and accept nothing more than a slice of pie in return. But as a non-speaker, he’s never felt like he really belongs. People talk at him, not with him.

Until Bennett Oliver moves to town with his Deaf daughter, Libby. Fixing up their new old house has its share of surprises, and Bennett relies on Frank a lot—so much that they’re becoming fast friends. The buzzsaw in Bennett’s chest doesn’t feel like “just friends,” though.

As the magic of autumn in Cherry Tree turns into a winter wonderland, Frank finds warmth and comfort in Bennett that he hasn’t had in a long time. Now if he could just melt the icy wall protecting his heart, he won’t have to spend New Year’s alone again.
