It's been eighteen months since Tilda and Clare moved to the animal sanctuary. While Tilda is happy that Clare is fulfilling a dream, she's struggling with her own lack of purpose.

During a long needed visit home to Ashton, Tilda finds the town has gone through some changes, and not all for the better. It's not long before she's drawn back into working on the farm and taking shifts at the hospital. It's more work than she's done in a long time, not to mention stressful and exhausting, but she's having the time of her life.

As their visit comes to an end, and it becomes undeniably obvious to Clare just how much Tilda has missed life as a doctor, a meddling interloper makes a suggestion... Why doesn't Tilda stay in Ashton?

Putting aside doubts about long distance, no matter how temporary, they come up with a new plan. Tilda stays and Clare goes back to the sanctuary.

At first, it's smooth sailing. Phone calls and visits are enough to bridge the gap. But will their relationship survive when tested by new friends, old flames, grief, and all the pitfalls of life apart and love from afar?
