Overview

Everyone knows Vedalia Kirkaldy is deathly afraid of bugs, which makes the scarab-topped box her uncle wills her a strange gift indeed. But it isn't what's on the box that’s weird, it’s what's in it: an alien insect whose purpose is to stop a parasitic invader bent on starting the apocalypse. All Vedalia has to do is accept its help—by letting it into her head, literally. Sabra Dempsey’s job is to protect and serve but when she meets Vedalia, she finds herself longing to do more than just guard her from harm. What could be the start of a great relationship is interrupted by a meteor that crashes into a bean field and unleashes the beginning of the end of the world. Vedalia and Sabra fight to save their town from being overrun by an insidious alien parasite that infects and controls its hosts—turning friends, neighbors, and family into alien zombies bent on destroying life as they know it.
