Keith Steller has dedicated his life to saving dogs in need, offering them a second chance at Underdogs Rescue Shelter. As the shelter manager, he’s a master at mending both physical and emotional wounds. But when it comes to Ben Cobb – a rugged, guarded rescue worker with a mysterious past – Keith finds himself facing a different kind of challenge.

Ben’s latest rescue, a deeply traumatized black lab named Pepper, brings back painful memories from his own childhood. Moved by her sad eyes and broken spirit, Ben offers to foster Pepper while she heals. As Keith and Ben work together to create a safe space for Pepper in Ben’s apartment, the two men find unexpected comfort in each other’s company.

Over the course of the evening, Ben’s defenses begin to crumble, and he opens up to Keith about his long-buried secrets. Kind words and gentle touches soon turn into passionate embraces, and what began as a night of vulnerability and shared trust evolves into something much deeper.
