When Indy Reynolds turns up to audition for the school play on a dare, Annie Ryan is pissed off. Annie is determined to win the lead role in Romeo and Juliet and win a scholarship to a good school, but auditions take an interesting turn when Indy requests that due to equal rights, she should be able to audition for the role of Romeo-and in the process, kiss Annie as part of the audition scene.

Annie is humiliated over the fact that Indy has not only kissed her in front of a whole auditorium but that it was her first kiss-she feels like a fool and immediately clashes with Indy.

When the play is cast with Annie and Indy in the lead roles, Indy is keen to find out how she has upset Annie and what she can do to make things better. The re-worked play ‘Romey and Juliet’ depends on Annie and Indy finding a way to get on and make it work between them.

With the two seventeen-year-olds suddenly thrust into each other’s lives, Annie is shocked to discover how sweet, kind and wonderful Indy is once they get to know each other. Having assumed she was arrogant and cocky, Annie finds Indy to be a vulnerable, deep and loving soul with whom she connects very quickly.

Indy wants to make up for messing up Annie’s first kiss with a girl, so she offers to teach her properly. Taking her up on the offer, both are stunned by their immediate, sexual attraction. A heady, intense and rapid relationship develops between them.
