Home Town Advantage:
After a failed attempt at building a new life in the big city, followed by a crushing breakup, Zach is moving back in with his parents – which means moving back to the small town he thought he had escaped forever. He doesn’t have high hopes – nothing ever changes in this place – but maybe he can catch up with people he lost touch with when he left.
His Mom is cagey about where his old best friend James went though, and Zach starts to worry he might end up all alone here, with no friends and no way out. He hits it off with Jenny, the girl who lives next door, but his Mom doesn’t trust her although she won’t tell Zach why. Zach can feel himself falling for Jenny, and he has the weirdest sensation that he has known her all his life. Why does she own James’ old baseball jersey though? Zach feels like in the years he has been gone this town suddenly gained a lot of secrets, and he is desperate to get to the bottom of them.
Ice Breaker:
Josh has been called up at the last minute to go on a big-deal sales trip – he’s nervous, but excited. He has been paired up with Susie, the beautiful and formidable woman he has had a crush on since the second he walked into the office. She has a reputation for closing any deal she sets her sights on. Nothing about this trip seems destined to go to plan though. First, there’s been some sort of a mix-up at the hotel which sees them sharing a room, and then the client they’re meeting is late – and rude.
“We’ve actually already given the contract to someone else” he explains, “but I didn’t want to pass up the chance to see you again” he says to Susie, smirking.
“I guess there’s no point in us staying then” she replies, her voice icy. Josh sits uncomfortably, the energy at the table crackling with tension.
“Looks like we have an evening to ourselves after all” she sighs, as they hail a taxi outside the restaurant. “Any ideas about how to fill the time?” she asks, raising an eyebrow.
“Truth or dare?” suggests Josh. He’s mostly joking, he thinks, but it isn’t like he knows what else to do in this place. Besides, in the office Susie is so buttoned up and crisply professional he doesn’t think there’s the faintest chance she’ll say yes.
“Haven’t played that in a while” says Susie, her eyes sparkling as she speaks.
As it turns out, Susie has a big, big secret to reveal, but will Josh have the courage to go through with her dare?
Change of Heart:
Henry and Ruby used to be the perfect couple – everyone said they seemed to be made for each other, but lately Henry has started to feel that they are more like strangers who share a bed. A couple’s counsellor suggests that ‘solving problems together’ might help with their communication, but neither of them buy it.
“I don’t think doing a jigsaw together is going to fix what’s wrong with us” says Ruby, derisively.
Henry stares gloomily at his shoes, the change of heart from Ruby which he has been hoping for seeming further away than ever before.
But when Ruby wakes up having undergone a mysterious transformation overnight, they will have to work together to figure out what is going on. Their search leads them to the town’s cavernous old library, where Ruby thinks she has figured out the truth. Is their relationship strong enough to survive it though? How will Henry handle Ruby’s shocking new endowment anyway? Could this be the change they both need to shake them up and give them a new perspective?
