When the market crashed, Jace Scarret lost everything; his job as a bank clerk, his savings, his home, and his lover. Refusing to fall into despair, Jace moved from flophouses to Hoovervilles, trying to find work, doing everything from shoveling coal to selling apples. During the bitter February cold, he walked through an open door in search of a warm place to sleep, and ended up with more than he could have hoped for.

It’s been just over a month since Jace ended up on Bruce Shannon’s doorstep, and thanks to the grumpy P.I., Jace now has a roof over his head, a steady job as Bruce’s assistant, and a budding romance. It’s St. Patrick’s Day, and while Jace is thinking about little else other than filing invoices and monthly expenses—without the help of their mischievous Miss Mittens, Bruce has some other ideas about how to spend the holiday.
