Alicia Cantrell’s got a brand-new name and she’s hoping for a life to go along with it. When she stumbles into Blackwater, Florida, she’s at the end of her rope and tired of running from the dark past that haunts her. She needs a safe place, one far from her old life, and that little corner of Florida’s about as far as she can get from where she started.

Katie doesn’t need any distractions in her life. She’s busy trying to keep her family’s old farm up and running during a time when so many are losing their homes and livelihoods. She’s still trying to live down the accusations that she murdered her husband, and raise the three children she took in. She doesn’t want to take on a boarder, especially one Katie’s certain is hiding something, but when Alicia lands in town and there’s nowhere else for her to go Katie agrees to rent her a room until Alicia can buy her own place.

There’s so many sparks between them but both Katie and Alicia are afraid of letting those sparks become fire. After a searing kiss first forces them to face what they want then sends them in opposite directions, they’re both sure that they’ll never have what they truly want—each other. When Alicia’s past finally catches up to her the question of how will they manage to be together becomes, will they even be able to be together?
