Navajo Activist Insists He Doesn’t Need a Bodyguard

Jacob doesn’t want my protection, but the protest that he’s leading against the company that is poisoning his people and their land is putting his life in danger. It doesn’t matter that we don’t get along. I’ll devote everything I have to making sure he’s safe. It’s my job.

The more I get to know him, though, and his family, and the better I learn to understand his people and their land, the more I admire and respect him. Also, the more danger I discover he is in. So am I. There’s no way this assignment isn’t going to cost me my heart.
