"If Black Beauty was a horror novel written by Blyton and Pratchett," - Mike Brooks, BFA-shortlisted author of The Black Coast (The God-King Chronicles)
It's 1950 in the quaint English village of Tabby Nook, and pony-mad Julie Jones would just about kill for a horse of her very own. When she finds out about the flame-breathing, carnivorous Hell Horse of Whitley Moor, it's naturally a done deal. Now Julie has no soul and a whole muck heap full of buried bodies, but she does have a good shot at winning first prize at the county show with the help of best friend (and schoolgirl crush) Sooz Higgins. It's just a shame that the meddling people of Tabby Nook keep getting in their way, and the girls are beginning to learn that necromancy can't solve all of their problems.
A Pony Book is a comedy-horror novel written loosely in the style of cosy British children's literature, but with extra lashings of sapphic romance and cosmic horror (think “Five Summon The Infernal Powers” or “Black The Biography of an Un-Horse". A dark and funny subversion of the classic story about a lonely girl who forms a special bond with a misunderstood horse that beats (..eats) everyone at the big county show, it contains frequent scenes of violence and is written for adult readers.
