Even a Gargoyle can’t soften a heart of stone. Eilener Tanager is one of the most notorious men in the Beneath—the only male Spellsinger in existence, able to make music into magic. They call him the Sinker of Continents and, perhaps not so loudly, a coldhearted killer. His looks are just as deadly and his appetite for life is ravenous. Entire civilizations have fallen prey to his whims. And I’ve been assigned the task of looking after him during his visit to the Oregon Zone. I’m a Gargoyle. I play rough and love rougher. But Eilener has been around for thousands of years. He has skills that make my head spin, and I’m not talking about his singing. If I give into the attraction between us, I’ll get to experience his talents firsthand, and normally, I’d be all in. But one kiss and I knew that sex with the Spellsinger was a bad idea. Don’t get me wrong, it would be incredible, too incredible. The life changing kind of incredible. And I like my life just as it is. In short, I’m screwed.
