Shawn Richards (aka S.K. Richardson) is a romance author. She’s had her heart broken badly again and is done with love. Ditching San Francisco, she moves back home to Southwest Florida to get her feet back under her and finish her latest novel.
Carrie Alexander is a huge S.K. Richardson fan, but has no idea what she looks like. She does, however, like the looks of the new neighbor down the street, Shawn Richards.
Drawn to each other as friends, Shawn still tries to keep some distance in spite of what she’s beginning to feel for Carrie. Carrie isn’t the kind of woman you just have a fun night with and then move on. Carrie’s the kind you fall in love with and make love to, and live happily ever after with—but she just can’t let herself trust her heart yet. After all, the last time she fell for one of her fans, it ended badly.
Carrie is looking for ‘happy ever after’ just like in all those romance novels she reads. Shawn could be the one, or maybe Carrie’s fooling herself and there’s really no such thing as all that romantic stuff in Shawn’s books.
Shawn is afraid she can’t deliver on that ‘happy ever after’ she knows Carrie wants—and she wants, too, truth be told. Destiny might have given them a push when Carrie tripped at the local grocery store and literally fell into Shawn’s arms. But fear could cost Shawn the woman of her dreams.
About BJ Phillips
BJ writes novels set in her home state of Florida.
She grew up in the South, spending most of her growing up years in Florida, happily barefoot or if her mom got her way, at least in flip flops. A voracious reader, she also began writing early on. She wrote everything from poetry to short stories, most of which never saw the light of day outside her notebooks.
In the fall of 2013 she heard of "National Novel Writing Month" or the NaNoWriMo challenge. Every November, the contest idea is to write at least 50,000 words in 30 days, which means coming up with 1,667 words every single day to meet that goal. She entered the challenge and then came home from work and wrote every evening. On the day after Thanksgiving that year, she pasted her story into the NaNoWriMo word counter. She had just over 50,000 words. She was a winner!
That manuscript became the bones of her first novel, a romance eventually named Hurricane Season, which Desert Palm Press published in June, 2016. The sequel, Snowbird Season, was released in June, 2017. A third romance novel, Changing Seasons, was published in 2018.
Her latest work is a cozy-type mystery, Murder at Leisure Lakes, published in September 2020. Under construction is her next novel, Murder at the Pink Flamingo Flea Market. Her mysteries are a humorous look at life in Florida, in spite of the murders.
BJ lives with her partner, a retired police officer. Their four-legged girl, Maya (a five pound Yorkie who had no idea that she's not a big dog) passed away in February 2023. Their other little one, Piper (a Chihuahua), passed away in 2020. They live in in central Florida. When not writing or reading, she enjoys knitting and crocheting, riding around in their golf cart, stopping to chat with neighbors and friends, people watching and shopping at flea markets. She's also a big baseball and football fan (on tv only, because it's closer to the kitchen), and still finds a way to watch way too many mysteries and police shows.
