Katie battled with her identity and her sexuality during her school years. Her family were open-minded and encouraged her to be whoever she wanted, and not follow the crowd. A Valentine’s card from another girl caused Katie to become the brunt of the popular girls’ jokes. Worried about what people might say about her, Katie buried her sexual desires and conformed to how the popular girls were living their lives. She married Alfie, a well-to-do lawyer and had three children with him. But she longed for more, and craved passion. The marriage caused a rift between Katie and her family that seemed irreparable.

Katie starts working for Florrie, an older woman, and there is instant chemistry. Upon realising that she and Florrie are the centre of the office gossip, Katie panics and is forced to confront her feelings for Florrie.
