Overview

To be clanless is to be nomadic. To be clanless means a life spent traveling the great plain to trade with those who have a clan, who have a city and safety behind its thick walls. To be clanless makes the night dangerous for it is full of angry spirits. To be clanless, is to be with family.

Maya is clanless and born into a family that rides the great plain. It is the only life she knows. Marked out by having grey eyes, storm eyes; Maya knows she is born to be something other than just another clanless laborer. Those with grey eyes are servants of the gods, and Maya has been called to the great mare, the primal power of life that rules the great plain. She knows because she dreams of dark and terrible things and a shadowy rider on a shining horse. When those dark and terrible things come to pass, there is only one place she can go.

Amala is Khanum, Khan to be of her city. She is clan and expected to rule. Upon hearing that her father, the Khan, has adopted a clanless waif into the clan she seeks to find out why. When she does, Amala knows everything is about to change and that her world is not as secure as she first thought. She knows what having grey eyes means and that it brings trouble.

But Amala also knows that she wants to dive into the middle of those two grey storms, and nothing, and no one, will stop her.
