Overview

Miss Janes is a coming of age story for young lesbian, Kate Andrews. Though she has learned to keep everyone at bay, aside from her supportive older brother Kevin, Kate finds herself drawn towards her new teacher Miss Janes. The story begins at the beginning of Kate’s senior year and she couldn’t be more ready to leave everything and everyone behind when she graduates. Kate has a past that she thinks, is worth running away from. She is a confident and sometimes too cocky, teenager that struggles to keep anyone around for longer than a night or two. Kate works at her brother’s mechanic shop to help support the two of them as they live on their own. Kate is selfish and immature, though she is certain that she knows best at eighteen years old. This attitude and her inability to take her life seriously ignites a conflict between her and Miss Janes that forces Kate to confront past demons. Of course, she attempts to make the Miss Janes problem go away by trying to instigate a romantic relationship, but Miss Janes stands strong to maintain what is actually best for her troubled student, though their connection is undeniable.
