Henry and I realize that having a family cannot be delayed any longer, and the only option we have at this point is to adopt a child. After all the assessments and paperwork, we are to have our first meeting with a four-year-old girl named Sofie. This has been the plan for months now, and just like that, it all changes. Against my husband’s wishes, we walk away from the center with a rebellious fifteen-year-old foster daughter who has been fighting every foster parent, every social worker, everyone in her path. She wants them to listen to her and understand that her mother would never leave her unless she had no choice. She wants them to find this woman and help her so they can be a family again, but no one would listen. Except me. I volunteer to take on this monumental task and all I can focus on is keeping the promise I made to this teenager who feels alone in her fight. This girl entering my life has turned everything on its head, so what will happen when I find her mother and she is added to the mix? She could be the one to make everything right again, or she could be the one to make all of this the mistake my husband has sworn it would be.
