Prostitutes are being murdered in the dark, back alleys of the Nation's Capital but the police aren't on the hunt for a serial killer. Why? Because the victims are just a bunch of junkie hookers and who cares?
Lieutenant Gianna Maglione, head of the Police Department's Hate Crimes Unit cares. In fact, she's been trying to get the Department to list crimes against women as hate crimes. And investigative newspaper reporter Mimi Patterson cares, especially when she learns that the police are calling them the Daniel Boone murders.
Gianna won't tell her why because when she finally got her wish and got the prostitute murders assigned to the Hate Crimes Unit, she discovered that the situation was much worse than she'd thought. And not only does the body count continue to mount with the finger of suspicion pointing at the rich and powerful, but one of her own team is attacked while trying to stop modern day Nazis from terrorizing an elderly Holocaust survivor.
And Mimi finds herself in the killer's cross-hairs as her investigation takes her too close to the truth. Whether pursuing the same clues or different ones, the cop and the reporter ultimately find themselves headed toward the truth, and once again on a collision course as their jobs get in the way of their romance.
