Things only went downhill since losing his dad as a kid, and now River’s existence consists of working long, hard hours and still coming up short on rent. He’s had to trade sexual favors for a place to sleep, and keeps finding himself always one mistake away from losing it all. He’s certainly not fit for fancy clothes, fine restaurants, or the attentions of business magnates like Benjamin Vasilyev and Émile Beaumont.
