Max Talbot has never had a normal life. He went from being the mayor’s son to a homeless addict hustling people for money to a lawyer’s husband. The one thing he’s never been is happy. That’s all he to live a normal, happy life where he can annoy Mike Carter for the rest of his life and be an upstanding citizen. Maybe not so much on that last part. He’s kind of a mess. As much as Carter wants to help his brother, Scott, keep investigating the mountain cult that may be behind the corruption and disappearances in the county, he’s still reeling from the news the investigator he hired to find his other brother Joey was found murdered in a back alley in Brook Valley.

When an old acquaintance shows up begging Max and Carter to help him track down his boyfriend who went missing in Brook Valley, Max thinks it’s the perfect opportunity to also look into the PI’s death. But as they poke around, it becomes clear nothing is as it seems, and they may put everyone they know in danger if they don’t let it go.

Unfortunately, letting go has never been Max’s strong point.

Sunrise in a Storm is the second book in the Polaris Mysteries series. The series is best read in order as there is an overarching plot throughout the series.
