Overview

The Kingdom of Kalland, once a satrapy to the brutal Kurenni Empire, now a powerful nation in its own right, simmers with discontent. Its king, the descendent of liberators, has become a tyrant with his own dreams of empire. The economy crumbles under the weight of his foreign wars, while the nobility plot against him and the populace is riven by religious conflict. Over everything hangs the threat of reprisal from those who once occupied the land and would seek to do so again.

Into this bubbling cauldron of disorder are drawn five individuals. A young journeyman mage, child of two races, summoned to Kalland by a secret. A princess, sister to the bloody-handed king, possessor of that secret. A warrior, fighting his king's wars, seeking nothing greater than fame and glory. A knight disgraced, lower than the gutter, lifted up one last time to solve a dark mystery. A privateer, scourge of the Kurenni navies, driven to the seas by vengeance.

These five each have a destiny, but whether they are destined to save Kalland from its turmoils or to destroy it once and for all, remains to be seen....
