Fantasy/Paranormal, Vampire, Romance R. A. Smith 53 11th Mar, 2025
Born 1492 Died (?) 1511. Despite being a Vampire, Lady Christine Fitzgerald had used her family's wealth and her own innate abilities to not only survive over the centuries but thrive! The guilty secret of the Aristocracy and even the Royals, her opulent parties and balls were the eagerly awaited events of the year. Especially her Christmas Ball of 1886. The perfect ending of the Season. That was until dawn, on Christmas Morning, when her world was shattered.
The Martins, a family of vampire hunters who had plagued her for centuries struck. Not caring about her wealth or her influence, they set her Manor to the torch in an effort to not only destroy her but all who would serve her as well. She was saved from the flames by her servants, her family, who came back into the holocaust to save their Mistress, their Lady, But, though she was saved, three of her servants were killed while six were injured including her Handmaid, her favorite, a girl of sixteen who was horribly burned.
Those who had attacked her Manor were swiftly captured and, when you have the Crown on your side, justice was sure and swift. All six were found guilty of arson and murder and sentenced to the gallows! It had been thought that Lady Fitzgerald had perished in the flames so, rather than put others she cared about in danger ever again, she had fled to America to a new world to start a new 'life'. There, on a hill near a small village, she had built a new home and became a part of her new community.
Finding ways of providing for herself so she wouldn't become a predator on humanity, she set to work. Still having access to her vast wealth, she founded a college in honor of her friend, Queen Victoria. She aided, she helped and guided her new community, a part of, but always apart from, her new world. And for nearly a century and a half, always living alone. And her loneliness grew.
Until one night, as she departed from her nightly coffee klatch with her friend Maggie, the owner of Hannigan's Pub, she discovered a young woman, Jennifer Kincaid, newly evicted, sitting on the sidewalk surrounded by boxes and bags, the remnants of her life, clutching an old worn teddy bear, weeping, lost alone, without hope. Taking her in, Christine, at first, looked on this lost girl as a child who had been thrown out like so much trash. A child who needed saving. Until the child became the truly beautiful woman that she had always been and who began to look upon her strange, beautiful savior who only came out at night with a love beyond gratitude. A love willing to give everything in return. Even life!
