Charity, a quiet and proper girl, believes everyone is acting ridiculous over the recent killing of a young boy in the Welsh woods. Things happen. Certainly, it wasn’t a punishment for their sins.

Charity’s new stepfather wants to marry her off and continue his role as town leader, intent on bringing back the practice of witch burning. On an errand for his father, Charity stubbornly follows Charles into the woods, hoping to stop him.

The pair soon become lost, delirious with hunger, and stumble upon a house so magical it looks good enough to eat.
