The World is Still Chaos is a reflection of our time as two melanated queer beings working through their pain, success, and confusion during a year of upheaval. Seeing our whole selves here is yet another way to acknowledge and grieve, and even give thanks, for the pressure in our lives that exists to make the future new. Those who weep and mourn are most definitely those for whom newness is born.

The World Is Still Chaos is not just about the pandemic or racial injustice protests. It is also about all of us navigating through the mess day after day. Fighting those battles we fight. I wanted to write this for those of us that thought our magic was lost. I heard somewhere that we have a purpose simply because we are here. In lieu of singing Solange’s “ F U B U ". I’ll just say that this is for us.

This book of poetry is an opportunity to profess our experiences within the chaos to see a reflection of ourselves.
