Rodney the rooster has been a staple -- an unwanted staple -- at the Darque and Knight Rodeo for years. Always an irritation, jumping out and squawking, pecking at anyone passing by for no reason other than a cranky mood. But there's more to Rodney than meets the eye -- much more, and it's about to show its face to everyone after years of secrecy.

Gideon is a man without a memory. Found wandering the rodeo's midway by none other than Rodney, he's handsome and mysterious and is wearing an oddly familiar patch on his jacket. The patch is from the Red Wattle Clan, a society of bird-shifters all too well known to Rodney.

Rodney decides to help Gideon get his memory back because he fears great danger is coming to the Darque and Knight Rodeo, and he might be the only rooster in town who can stop it. What he doesn't count on is falling in love with a man who might turn out to be his worst enemy.
