Overview

Once upon a time, there was a young man named Aubrey, whose cruel mother married a wealthy widower. When the widower died under mysterious circumstances, his mother’s cruelty grew unchecked, though for once in Aubrey’s young life, that cruelty was aimed more at his stepbrother, Cinder, than him.

When Crown Prince Jean announced that he was seeking a spouse, Aubrey saw his chance to escape his mother’s cruelty, and to assuage his own guilt onward Cinder by getting them both out. Aubrey’s plans never came to fruition, however Cinder managed to catch the Prince’s eye. Cinder won his own happily ever after, while Aubrey paid a terrible price.

Now, Aubrey lives on the streets, a blind beggar broken under the weight of his past sins. He can’t imagine that he deserves anything more than the slow, agonizing death awaiting him, but a visiting prince might just have other plans for him, if only Aubrey can make peace with his past.
